Families USA’s vision is a nation where the best health and health care are equally accessible and affordable to all. Their work centers on four focus areas: health care value, health equity, coverage, and consumer experience.
JDC Events produced a pair of online events for Families USA: An invitation-only summit for state-based advocates to strategize, network, and plan for the coming year, followed closely by the group’s annual Health Action Conference. The conference was geared toward mobilizing health advocates at both the state and national levels. Since both events were scheduled to take place in fall/winter of 2021-22, during a time of continued uncertainty around Covid-19, the group opted to hold their events virtually.
Speakers included representatives from The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; high-profile political figures, including President Joe Biden and Speaker Nancy Pelosi; leaders at advocacy groups such as AARP and Children’s Defense Fund; and reporters from POLITICO, CBS News, and The New York Times.
Since one of the main goals of the conference was to connect and activate health advocates, the event design focused on cultivating connections through workshops, strategic use of the event platform’s social features (including an internal social feed, a photo booth integration, and one-to-one chat and meeting features), and the addition of an Engagement Hub. Within the Engagement Hub, attendees learned about and connected with organizations in the health advocacy space, accessed the event’s content library, and participated in shared but asynchronous activities located within a virtual wellness corner.
Because the team was strategic in promoting the platform’s engagement features, attendees were highly active on the event site. They contributed to session chats and polls, exchanged messages in-platform, uploaded their photo booth images to the event stream, and participated in the event’s calls to action. Moreover, since the team incorporated session surveys into the overall in-platform engagement strategy, attendees returned actionable survey results during the event, providing valuable data to the Families USA team.
